Procter Johnson is a leading supplier of pigments and additives to the concrete & asphalt industries and services customers in over 40 countries, spanning 5 continents. This is serviced from our facilities in the UK & China.

Our main factory and head office is located in the United Kingdom and has been awarded ISO9001, ISO14001 & OHSAS 45001. We continually look for efficiencies in our processes to ensure that we minimise the use of electricity and waste. International standard ISO26000

Procter Johnson has embarked on implementing ISO26000, guidance on social responsibility.

2021

New Production Facility

The company has invested in a new 10 acre site in Llandyrnog, Wales which will help with the expansion of the business.

Procter Johnson is awarded ISO45001

As a company we felt it important to transition to the internationally recognised standard for occupational health & safety management.

Laboratory installed at the admixture facility.

Head office renovation

Offices at Flint brought into the 21st century.

Installation of Admixture Plant

New 10 million litre capacity plant is installed at Flint to manufacture the Krete range of admixtures.

With capacity up to 10,000 tons, the plant is equipped to cope with any business demands from the UK and Europe.

The new logo & website was launched.

2004

Installation of Mix Aco equipment

Although blending capacity wasn't an issue, it was becoming more apparent that we needed to be able to produce smaller batches of different colours quickly. The 'Mix Aco' helped us achieve that.

2001

Direct shipments from China

We made our first direct shipment from Shanghai to a customer in South Africa.

2000

Masterbatch Pigments for Asphalt

The turn of the millennium saw Procter Johnson introduce a polymer based pigment for the asphalt industry.

1999

100 Years of Procter Johnson

The business has changed a lot in 100 years and the construction industry is very much the focus now.

1995

Procter Johnson exhibits at Bauma, Germany

This was the first time the company exhibited at the world's largest construction fair.

1994

Accredited to BS5750

This later became ISO9001, which our quality management system complies to today.

1990

Liquid Pigments manufactured at Flint

The company introduced a range of liquid pigments for concrete and in addition manufactured carbon black pigments for Harrisons & Crosfield, which later became Elementis Pigments.

1984

Procter Johnson moved to Flint, North Wales

Due to expansion, the business was moved to a much larger site in North Wales. This is still the current location today.

1975

Export Markets Explored

The first sales overseas were to Libya & Syria and over the next 15 years, new customers were found in places like Central & South America, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Philippines and even in smaller markets like Mauritius.

1955

Proctorial Brand Cement Colours introduced

Supplying major concrete precast manufacturers such as Forticrete of Liverpool. Later in the 1960's Marshalls of Halifax became one of the largest customers taking as estimated 400 tons of Proctorial Cement Colour.

1935

New premises in Clayton, Manchester

During the Second World War, camouflage pigments were manufactured for the government.

1920

Company moved to Ardwick, Manchester

Started to supply natural oxides to the precast concrete industry. Also sold various extenders into the paint industry such as barytes, blanc fixe & calcium carbonate.

1899

Procter Johnson was founded in Salford, Manchester

The company began as chemical merchants selling a variety of drysaltery items. Extended oxide & pigments were later produced for the local paint companies.
